BASAL ELEMENTS
Inspired by organic cells, fossils or minerals, the artist uses India ink in combination with elements of an ancient Japanese Suminagashi technique of paper marbling. The aim is to create visual forms and textures that imitate and amplify nature. Due to the qualities of materials used, the process of making is very fluid and alive; the resulting elements are partly calculation and partly chance. Just like in nature, every element is unique and cannot be repeated.
Cutouts, made alongside the ink elements, both echo and contrast them. The resulting effect highlights disparity between having and loosing.
